Course Introduction to Natural Medicinal Chemistry I. Basic information of the course Course number: 14234076 Course category: Required courses for major Applicable major: Pharmacy Credits: 4, including 2.5 credits for theory teaching and 1.5 credits for experimental teaching Total academic hours: 88, including 40 theoretical hours and 48 experimental hours Prerequisite: Inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, Chromatography and spectral Analysis, Medicinal Botany, pharmacognostics Setting unit: Medical College of Yangzhou University II. Course content and teaching objectives According to the training objectives and learning characteristics of undergraduate students majoring in pharmacy, the teaching objective of this course is to enable students to master the relevant theories of natural pharmaceutical chemistry, the structure types, physical and chemical properties, extraction, separation, purification and detection methods of important natural physiological active ingredients through course learning. To master the physical and spectral methods for the determination of the molecular structure of main types of natural compounds; To understand the structure-activity relationship of important natural physiologically active components; To know the physiological activities of the main types of natural compounds, and to know the latest research progress of the main types of natural compounds. Natural Medicinal Chemistry is a course that emphasizes both theory and experiment. The experimental content should include important natural pharmaceutical components, such as anthraquinones, flavonoids, terpenoids, alkaloids, etc. The main content of the experiment was extraction and separation, supplemented by identification. Several typical extraction and separation methods should be selected, and several monomer components should be separated from each raw material, and certain purity should be achieved. The identification methods include physical, chemical and chromatographic methods. The study of this course will lay a solid foundation for the study of follow-up courses and the production and research of traditional Chinese medicine and natural medicine in the future, and serve for inheriting and developing the cause of Chinese medicine and realizing the modernization of Chinese medicine. III. Basic requirements for teaching methods, practical links and students' independent learning The use of multimedia teaching methods, "heuristic" teaching principles, diversified teaching methods, the combination of teaching and discussion, strengthen exercises and classroom discussion, practical Chinese medicine and natural medicine application examples, can stimulate students' interest. Experimental course emphasizes the training of basic hands-on ability, teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, combining experimental operation with theoretical guidance. Students are required to have the ability to learn independently, cultivate professional thinking concepts and adapt to the requirements of the new era. Especially in the era of big data and health, the new requirements for talent training are put forward, and the ability to apply professional knowledge and related skills to innovation and entrepreneurship is cultivated. Ⅳ. Assessment method and evaluation of academic performance Course assessment: examination; Grade assessment: Test score (70%) + lab score (20%) + usual performance (10%) (including class attendance, performance in questioning and homework). V. Introduction to the teaching team Theory teaching and experimental teaching this course shall be the responsibility of the two teachers. Dr Chang-shui Yang will give lectures and guide in theoretical and experimental teaching contents, who finished his Ph.D. in China pharmaceutical university, the major is Chinese medicine. He specializes in the discovery of novel structural active components from traditional Chinese medicine and natural plants, have special thinking of application of traditional Chinese medicine teaching and modern concepts of pharmacy, can grasp the latest scientific and technological information combined with this course in order to improve the professional thinking and practical motivation ability of pharmaceutical students. Ms. Hongyan Yu is mainly responsible for experiment preparation and laboratory management, coordinating and solving the problems of instruments, materials and reagents in the course of experiment, and comprehensively serving the teaching of experiment course.
